PHOTOGRAPHY, CONCEPT, NARRATIVE AND THE BOOK
This three-day virtual workshop focuses on photography, concept, narrative and the book form, and finding ways to bring the power of each of these things to bear on a single, well-realized book project, utilizing the essential steps of editing, sequence, layout and design.
Christian Patterson will share insights into the creative process behind his projects and books, including Redheaded Peckerwood and Bottom of the Lake, along with insights into his current work, Gong Co. Patterson will share how he has guided his projects from conception to completion, and use them as case studies for an integrative, holistic approach to photographic bookmaking through editing, sequencing, laying out and designing a book.
In the workshop, Patterson will share thoughts on best practices, identify and elaborate on the essential steps to successful photographic bookmaking. Detailed analyses and examples of editing, sequencing and visual structure will be shared. Time will also be spent viewing, critiquing and discussing participants' work. Patterson has added, "My workshop has a few simple but important goals: to step outside ourselves for a moment, to consider our own work and processes in relation to the book form in new and different, complementary and effective ways and, most importantly, to encourage and help each other move forward."
Program
Day 1 / Saturday 15th May - Artist talk with Q & A / social time
Day 2 / Sunday 16th May - Book making
Day 3 / Saturday 22nd May - Participants’ work review

PHOTOGRAPHY, CONCEPT, NARRATIVE AND THE BOOK - ONLINE WORKSHOP
